Professor Oshita O. Oshita was born on 4th June, 1962. He is a Nigerian of Boki origin and had his early education at St. Patricks Primary School, Bunyia Irruan, Boki Local Government of Cross River State. He also attended Central School III, Nachi in Udi Local Government Area, and Ezechima Primary School, Onitsha, both in the old East Central State. He completed his secondary school education in 1980 and passed the West African School Certificate examination with Division One. He began his career as a University lecturer at the then University of Cross River State (now UniUyo), in 1987 and later became a Senior Lecturer at the University of Calabar in 1997. In 1992 he was elected into the Federal House of Representatives as the member representing the Boki Local Government Area. He has taught and supervised students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has been examiner to various institutions. He joined the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in year 2000 and became Director of Research and Policy Analysis in 2006. In 2007, he was a visiting Professor to Bayreuth University in Germany, where he designed, taught and examined students on Governance and Conflict in Africa.

He is an expert in Governance, Peace and Conflict Studies and has consulted for Humanitarian Dialogue, Geneva, GIZ, USAID, Catholic Relief Services, WACSI, ECOWAS Political Affairs Department and Early Warning Directorate, UNDP-DPA New York/Uganda, among others. He coordinated Nigeria’s first Strategic Conflict Assessment (SCA) jointly sponsored by the UNDP, World Bank, USAID and DfID. He also led the UNICEF-IPCR national processes for Mainstreaming Peacebuilding in Development Programming. As Director of Research and Policy Analysis at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), he led Nigeria’s pioneer efforts in the development of a Draft National Peace Policy for the country. He is a member of professional associations, including the British International Studies Association (BISA), the Network for African Peacebuilders, and the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), where he served as FCT Coordinator and later was 2nd Vice President. He is a distinguished Ambassador for Peace of the UN POLAC Peace Programme. His current research interests include Peace building, Peace Education, Conflict-sensitive development programming, Security Sector Reform, Community early warning systems, and Public Policy Analysis.

Professor Oshita O. Oshita is a distinguished Chevening scholar of the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), and his advance academic qualifications are in the areas of the Philosophy of Social Science, Environmental Education, and Peace and Conflict Studies. He holds the Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (2nd Class Upper), MA Philosophy, Post-Graduate Diploma in Environmental Education, MA in Conflict Resolution, and a PhD in the Philosophy of Social Science. He was educated at the Universities of Calabar and Ibadan in Nigeria, and the famous Bradford University, United Kingdom. He is a trainer and facilitator, and has published locally and internationally. He was appointed Professor of Peace and Development Studies in 2011. Professor Oshita is a multi-cultural personality and mixes freely. At the time of his appointment as Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), he was a Study Group Coordinator/Directing Staff at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), Lower Usuma, Bwari, Abuja.
