Dr. Ochogwu, Experts Gather To Amplify Africa’s Voice In Emerging Global Order
The Director General of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, and other African experts gathered on Wednesday to strengthen Africa’s presence and influence in the global arena.
The event, which brought together a diverse group of experts to share knowledge, ideas, and strategies for amplifying Africa’s voice, was organized by IPCR, the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) in Cape Town, South Africa, and the International Peace Institute (IPI) in New York, United States.
The event, “Roundtable on African Perspectives on the Emerging Global Order,” was a crucial step towards empowering Africa’s voice in the emerging global order. This initiative resulted from a tripartite project undertaken by the three institutes.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Ochogwu stated that the roundtable aimed to present a collective continental response by “giving Africa a voice in the emerging global order and driving the continent from passivity to activeness.”
According to Dr. Ochogwu, this would help African institutions examine how they can strengthen governance systems, address security challenges, and foster long-term political stability.
Other speakers, including Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on International Cooperation, Dapo Oyewole; Prof. Tim Murithi, Head of IJR’s Peacebuilding Interventions Program and Extraordinary Professor of African Studies at the University of the Free State, South Africa; and Bitania Tadesse, Policy Specialist for Africa at the International Peace Institute in New York, expressed their views and emphasized that it is time for Africa to take its position on global issues.
