The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution hosted a high-level Delegation from the Darfur region of Sudan. This engagement was facilitated by the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, Nigeria, headed by Dr. Chris Agoha. The delegation comprised esteemed traditional rulers, representatives of prominent Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), women and youth groups from Sudan.
The Darfurian delegation was on a study tour to seek the expertise of the IPCR’s Director-General, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, and the Institute’s scholars towards addressing the escalating violent conflicts, deep-seated divisions, and mistrust among various ethnic groups in Darfur. These challenges have resulted in political instability, socio-economic stagnation, and immense devastation in the region.
During the engagement, IPCR Scholars delivered comprehensive presentations on thematic areas crucial to mitigating complex issues facing Sudan, including Federalism and Governance Systems, Management of Diversity, and Constitutional Roles of Traditional Rulers. The deliberations were extensive, allowing for meaningful experience-sharing and comparative analysis among participants.
The strategic meeting culminated in the mapping out of a strategic plan of action, aimed at restoring durable peace, unity, security, and sustainable development in Darfur, Sudan.
The engagement between IPCR and Darfurian delegation demonstrates the efficacy of synergy and collaboration in promoting peace and managing conflict in Africa.
Together, we can build “The Africa We Want” for a greater future!
