The DG, IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, had the honour to host the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Amb. Bankole Adeoye, at the Institute.
Discussions focused on addressing pressing challenges bedevilling African nations, including poverty, unemployment, climate change, political instability, violent extremism, radicalisation, and terrorism. These social phenomena have impacted negatively on the livelihood, peace, security, stability and socio-economic development of African nations.
Amb. Bankole re-echoed diverse Arican Union’s initiatives to tackle these critical issues, such as Security Sector Reform, Effective Mediation and Preventive Diplomacy, and Silencing the Guns.
In the same vein, Dr. Ochogwu emphasized that IPCR has been in the forefront of mitigating Africa’s heightened level of violent conflicts and insecurity, particularly towards achieving its statutory mandate of peace promotion and conflict management in Nigeria and Africa.
“The Institute has conducted research, embarked on mediatory intervention and built capacities of Africans to entrench the culture of peace, stability and development across board,” he stated.
Dr. Ochogwu also noted the need to support the Network of Diplomatic and Peace Think Tank Academy to be built by Africa Union (AU) with research outputs, aimed to promote peace, security, and sustainable development in Africa.
Both the IPCR and AU Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security are committed to strengthening their partnership to accomplish violence-free Africa, promoting durable peace, improved security, regional integration, and continental progress.
Together, we will make Africa great!
